Belfast’s Christmas Market Opens For Another Shopping Season

Back for its 18th year, Belfast Christmas Market opened to eager crowds, at 12noon on Saturday 18th, attracting thousands who queued to be the first through the gates.

As many visitors got their first look at this year’s highly anticipated award-winning market, they were welcomed by live Christmas entertainment, delicious treats and magnificent sights, sounds and smells. Q Radio presenters Amy McGuckin and Ibe Sessay greeted eager crowds, offering them festive merchandise and competition prizes, while playing popular tunes from their new bespoke Q Radio DJ Booth in the food court at the market, getting everyone into the Christmas Spirit.

Amy McGukin, Q Radio Breakfast Presenter said: “Myself and Ibe are so excited to be involved in the opening of Belfast Christmas Market on behalf of Q Radio. I can’t wait to get some mulled wine and Dutch pancakes and soak up all the Christmas vibes! Make sure you come down and see Q Radio’s brand new DJ booth providing the best Christmas tunes in the food court area.’’

This year’s Belfast Christmas Market has seen the return of many visitor favourites, such as bite-size Dutch pancakes, Poffertjes, warming traditional Glühwein and of course the all-famous Bratwurst Sausage. With over 100 stalls (including gifts, crafts, fashion, art and food) and up to 30 different nationalities represented at the market, there is something on offer for everyone. Operators of the market, Market Place Europe continue to support local, with 40% of traders originating from Northern Ireland and many of the international traders purchasing fresh produce for their dishes from local suppliers.

There’s plenty for all the family too, including the big man in red, who will be resident in his festive grotto operated by local children’s charity, Kids Together Belfast. And for those looking for an adrenaline rush, a whizz down the vintage Helter Skelter is sure to scratch the itch.

The Belfast Christmas Market attracts visitors from across Europe and the UK and has become a significant contributor to the local economy, regularly attracting over one million visitors and resulting in an economic impact to the city of circa a staggering £90m, demonstrating the citywide benefit of such a large and well-organised event.

Belfast has so much on offer throughout the city this year and the Christmas Market is just one of several events launching as part of the Christmas festivities.
